Wolfman Contracting of Dallas Texas is the SureCoat Systems featured project of the month for March 2012 with their Gravel Roof Reconditioning Project, Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Our Lady of Lourdes is a 16,240 square foot full SureCoat Roof Reconditioning System installation. According to Gensser of Wolfman Contracting, it was a tougher than normal reroof alternative because the roof was covered with a heavy amount of gravel and the gravel was really embedded in the roof. He went on to say “We worked through it. The roof is done and we are moving on to more projects with them.”

Typical Gravel Roof Challenges:

1. The gravel tends to hold water longer than if the water were on the surface and able to evaporate. These longer standing roof ponds feed roof leaks.

2. Gravel absorbs heat which accelerates the underlying paper deterioration and becomes brittle.

3. Gravel hides splits in the waterproofing membrane and therefore inhibits more severe roof leaks.

When Wolfman originally met with the church about their roof leak issues they were only interested in long-term sustainable solutions. They wanted a roof that they could maintain and would “live with the building”. Wolfman was able to offer them just that. Wolfman’s proposal involved a complete roof reconditioning with the SureCoat seamless single ply. The church was pleased that their proposed roof solution was a renewable and sustainable roof system. Key Selling points to Our Lady of Lourdes:

· No heavy machines or heat & apply products · The energy saving value in long-lasting high reflectivity and thermal emittance of SureCoat vs. any other product · Maintainability & Sustainability · Ponding Water Warranty

Our Lady of Lourdes existing gravel roof had several roof leaks. Gravel roofs leaks are difficult to track and find. Rather than continuing to play the roof leak game of hind-and-seek, the roof was in desperate need of a complete restoration. Their options were limited to a new roof assembly or The SureCoat Roof System reroof alternative. The church decided on removing the gravel and reconditioning their existing roof with the more affordable and sustainable option, The SureCoat Roof System.
When asked about this project Gensser stated “If you ask the church today, they will tell you that they are very pleased with their newly reconditioned roof. We just had a very heavy rain and not one leak!”
