Seems it is with some manufacturers.  Part of what you are buying with your roof system is the confidence to know that it will last for the specified amount of time.  If it does not last, then you want that same confidence in the manufacturer to know that they will stand behind their warranty.

Warranties are supposed to protect the buyer not the manufacturer.   But that is not always the case.

Here are three important things you should ask for in writing before you buy material for your next warranted roof:

1.  Can you see the warranty and what it covers before you buy the material?

2.  Will it really stand up to ponding water or inadequate drainage past 48 hours?

3.  Is it clear what the manufacturers expect you to do to keep that warranty valid?

You are putting your name and reputation on that roof.  In most cases, you are recommending the product to your customer.  Don’t get caught not knowing what is and isn’t covered.
