Despite the fact that the exterior of the property is the first line of defense against environmental hazards, let’s be real, most of the time it lacks the attention it needs. Daily exposure to weather – UV, snow, ice, hail, high winds, scorching heat, etc. – increases the risk of damage not only to the roof but the structure below.

Over the last few years, with the increase in natural weather disasters throughout the United States we’ve seen the term of resiliency pop up regarding structural integrity. According to the Department of Homeland Security, “the term ‘resilience’ refers to the ability to adapt to changing conditions and withstand and rapidly recover from disruption due to emergencies.” And those “emergencies” do in fact include severe weather events that in turn effect what we do in the roofing industry to protect a roof and its contents below.

When it comes down to it, there are two leading factors that determine the resiliency of a roof system known as durability and design.

These type of durable and design components include things such as:

  • Resistances to weathering characteristics such as UV resistance or the ability to withstand extreme heat and cold.
  • The ease of maintenance and repair.
  • The ability to withstand movement cycles without fatigue.
  • A backup system or waterproofing layer.
  • The ability to resist extreme weather changes or even changes in building use.
  • And, Wind resistance.

Many of today’s sustainable roofing standards were developed in response to severe weather events that we have witnessed. For SureCoat Systems it’s in our DNA, and that’s what makes us a uniquely valuable component of a resilient roofing system.

It’s In Our DNA

SureCoat Systems is a fully adhered system that uses cross-linked resins to firmly attach itself to the existing roof surfaces. No mastics, adhesives, sealants or primers are required because they are already engineered into the SureCoat product. SureCoat System has no seams to leak and one of the highest rates of adhesion of any product on the market, four times the industry standard. The high solid content of 80% provides a thick membrane that is flexible and resistant to animal fats, most chemicals, and pollutants.

For well over a decade, the SureCoat product has maintained its physical properties and performance of specification standards on different installations in diverse climates. SureCoat has one of the lowest published perm ratings for elastomeric roof coatings at .0025 specifically formulated to protect existing roof materials from exposure to ponding water and is UV stable for the entire life of the system (10-20 years). The highest grades of raw materials are used including four proprietary modified resins. This ultimately increases durability and adhesion compared to the standard acrylic and silicone roof coatings. SureCoat exceeds FM standards for Class 1 fire resistance, windstorm, and hail resistance and remains energy efficient as it weathers.  SureCoat has one of the highest listed aged testing results on the Cool Roof Rating Counsel (CRRC), is Title 24 Compliant and is an Energy Star product.
